The aim of the project is to repair and conserve the iconic west front of the abbey, and reinstate public access to a newly stabilised structure.  This important centrepiece of the whole historic complex, was the focus for medieval decoration and, later, the inspiration for Lord Byron.  Restoration of the west front will increase day-to-day use and enjoyment of Newstead Abbey, and ensure that the outstanding architectural significance is shared with visitors through new interpretation developed in partnership with local community groups. This pivotal first phase of repairs will act as the catalyst in the development of a major capital repair project to secure the long-term future of the abbey.

This project was completed in December 2019 but there is further conservation work to be carried out at the property and donations are still welcome.
