About

Partnerships

Partnership building is key to our work. Without a collaborative approach we would not function effectively.

Our work affects local communities who live with and use the buildings we support. It also affects those whose culture or belief is represented in historic architecture. Our work forges links between the following four groups:

Local groups

Site nominators and local supporters on the ground are crucial to unlocking a project. They are often the initial point of contact and remain on the front line of a project throughout its duration.

Government and Heritage bodies

We undertake projects which attain legitimacy through the approval of national regulatory bodies, both within the UK and outside it.

We exist as part of a heritage community and our work must complement what others are doing to ensure effectiveness. Many of our projects are the recipients of architectural awards from other conservation bodies, such as The Georgian Group.

Corporate Sponsors and other funding bodies

We have a proud history of high quality partnerships with companies such as American Express, Tiffany & Co. and Orient-Express Hotels, Trains and Cruises. We offer a wide range of benefits for companies wishing to support visible and effective improvements to the global environment. As an independent organisation, we welcome open discussion of support for core funding, challenge funding, educational activities, individual monuments or a portfolio of sites, through to shaping new initiatives.

Foundations in the US

WMF has long-term relationships with international foundations and funding bodies, which also provide benefit to WMF Britain. The most important being the The Robert W. Wilson Challenge to Conserve Our Heritage which allows WMF to offer matching funding to donors on a project by project basis.

WMF’s partnership with the Samuel H. Kress Foundation has had impressive results in Europe. The launch of the World Monuments Watch programme in 1995, marked the involvement of founding sponsor American Express with WMF.
