Oh, I do like to be beside the seaside: Saving Britain’s Coastal Heritage

Public talk
Mar 52019 7pm

Annual Mellon Lecture

The UK’s coastal heritage stands as an icon of Britishness. Revered and parodied in equal measure, it has stood the test of time and adapted to suit changes in taste and holiday fashions. But our seaside heritage is facing one of its biggest challenges yet: the impact of climate change. Vulnerable, often poorly maintained coastal structures face increasingly fierce attacks by the elements, and now their long-term future is under threat.

Join Allan Brodie of Historic England who will be launching his new book ‘The Seafront’ and Carl Carrington from Blackpool Council who will discuss the impact that climate change is having on Blackpool’s historic piers.

The evening will be introduced by Historic England Chairman Sir Laurie Magnus

A short drinks reception will follow the talks with an opportunity to buy a signed copy of Allan’s book ‘The Seafront’.
