The staff and trustees of World Monuments Fund Britain were deeply saddened to hear the news of the death of Peter Stormonth Darling. Peter was a long-serving Board member for World Monuments Fund Britain, joining in 1998, and becoming Chair of the charity from 2007 to 2009. He also served on the Board of World Monuments Fund in New York. Ever a champion of the value of historic buildings and monuments in Britain and across the world, Peter had a keen sense of the importance of conservation for local communities. During his time he championed, advised and supported projects at Stowe House in Buckinghamshire, St Paul’s Cathedral and St George’s Bloomsbury in London, Headford House in Ireland and Hyderabad in India. After leaving the Board, Peter remained a regular attendee of WMFB events, and continued to take a deep interest in local and Middle Eastern projects, supporting WMF’s Crisis Response campaign this year.
Peter was an intelligent and gracious advocate for the work of World Monuments Fund and will be greatly missed.
